Amazingly…I had time to do something I wanted to. I had this sketch in pencils since last year sometime. I just loved the pose. So tonight pulled it out and threw some inks on it then dropped some colors in there.

I’ve kept this blog Politics free, but this is too good to pass up. Plus is comic related… I’m for Obama, I mean Batman.

Warm Up Sketch. Did this with a cheap little blue bic. THOSE PENS ARE AWESOME ! Lots of really great tone that can be produced. When scanning I just desaturated it and messed with the contrast. Anyway…fun distraction !

Hey Everyone.
When I decided I wanted to apply to Zuda on my own..with my own comic, I was excited. I was also very nervous. I took the time to refine and make as perfect my little comic. My amazing girlfriend has been there all along the way encouraging me and being my inspiration. I submitted and waited. Unsure as to whether or not I would even hear back. But low and behold I did.
So this month it was in competition my standing was a constant 6th place. Not where I wanted to end up obviously….but not dead last. June’s contest ended and I didn’t win. There’s a hint of upset-ness…but more then anything else…I’m happy to have just been the contest.
YEARS ago..when I first tried to freelance I sent samples to DC. I actually got a nice letter of rejection. I’ve kept it ever since. This past week I framed and hung on my wall next to my DC rejection letter the invoice a copy of the check and the envelope. I don’t see this as an end to something but another stepping stone.
I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me. It means SOOO much to me that someone will take the time. Thanks to the CGS guys for giving me a chance to talk about the comic .
Secondly …Its possible. If you keep at it….whatever it is, you can do it. But its worth the effort. Yes its kinda’ corny but Its true.
Thanks everyone !
- Matt
